We created the Garfield Weston Awards for Excellence in Education to acknowledge and celebrate school teams – administrators (principals, vice-principals, superintendents, directors of education), teachers and support staff – whose skill, hard work, perseverance and enthusiasm have contributed significantly to their students’ academic performance. We hope that these awards will contribute to a change in the climate of opinion among Canadian educators so they will recognize the benefits of productive competition and public celebration of success as two vital ways to improve school performance.
This site was developed to inform educators and the communities they serve about this exceptional award program by detailing its origin, history, qualification process and previous participants, as well as creating a network for educators across Canada to discuss and seek professional advice on current issues in education.
